John Owen, like most of his fellow Puritans, was deeply concerned with the practical implication of theology on the Christian life. Perhaps in no area is this more evident than in his work on the Christian’s struggle with indwelling sin.

Owen, in the opening chapter of his work The Mortification of Sin states that, “The vigor, and power, and comfort of our spiritual life depends on the mortification of the deeds of the flesh.”
